Sports Medicine

VOSM was one of the first canine orthopedic sub-specialty groups in the world. The specialists at VOSM are even further sub-specialized into the disciplines of sports medicine, joint replacement, trauma, juvenile orthopedic conditions, regenerative medicine and orthopedic surgical oncology, as well as conservative medical management and rehabilitation treatments for osteoarthritis and soft tissue injuries.

The sub-specialty orthopedic surgeons at VOSM are leaders in their field and are actively engaged in research and development, lecturing and teaching at a national and international level.

At VOSM, we consider rehabilitation therapy to be an integrative part of the recovery process following illness or injury. We have a full staff of certified canine rehabilitation therapists who are skilled in working with post-operative orthopedic and neurologic patients. Whether performed as an alternative to surgery or as post-surgical treatment, rehabilitation therapy is designed around each individual patient to ensure a thorough, long-lasting recovery.

Common physical rehabilitation modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical neuromuscular stimulation (TENS), cold laser, neuromuscular electrical stimulation...

Regenerative Medicine

The Orthobiologic Innovations Center for Regenerative Medicine at VOSM has been providing stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma treatments for patients since 2008, making VOSM one of the first sub-specialty facilities in the country to offer such promising treatments to its patients. The Center offers in-house stem cell collection and processing as well as stem cell culturing from its local university collaborators. The regenerative medicine laboratory at VOSM is equipped with advanced technology enabling the processing of bone marrow or fat-derived stem cells as well as platelet-rich plasma...

The Spine Center at VOSM is a one-of-a-kind center specializing in advanced and innovative treatment for patients with back pain and injuries, brain diseases, and disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. We have successfully treated spinal deformities, degenerative conditions, fractures, infections, tumors, and arthritis, providing both non-surgical and surgical treatment options for our patients.

The Spine Center opened in August 2011 when Dr. Ryan Gallagher, our board certified neurologist, joined the VOSM team. The facility is considered one of the nation's premier centers for neurological health. The Spine Center is proud to offer on-site MRI services.

Because many conditions stabilize over time, appropriate diagnostic and non-surgical measures are often pursued as a first line of treatment. For severe conditions, neurological dysfunction, and failed non-surgical treatment, surgery is recommended.

Sports Medicine

VOSM is the world's first and only veterinary sub-specialty group concentrating on canine sports medicine. The specialists at VOSM have a strong understanding of the activities performed by and injuries occurring in working and performance dogs. They also understand not only the need to accurately diagnose and treat working and sporting injuries, but the requirements of returning these athletes back to full performance.

Due to our high success rate of returning dogs back to work and sport, VOSM receives patients all over the country and across the world. Universities, other specialty veterinary groups and general practice veterinarians all refer patients and entrust us with returning their own companion and performance dogs to full activity.
